Development
of the Township is controlled largely by the Zoning Ordinance. The
community is divided up into different areas, or zones, and the
ordinance specifies what type of development can be constructed in each
zone. The Planning Commission drafts the ordinance and recommends any
amendments, with the help of a professional planner. The Township Board
makes all final decisions on drafts or amendments to the ordinance. The
ordinance first went into effect in 1983, and has had many revisions
since then. Each revision to the ordinance is publicly debated and
discussed by the Planning Commission, and public hearings are held to
get input from the community. The public is encouraged and welcomed to
attend Planning Commission meetings.
Planning
Commission Members serve three-year terms and are appointed by the
Township Supervisor, with confirmation of the Township Board.
